History

EYFS

We build upon the child's history of themselves and that of their family, enabling the children to talk about significant events from their own past.

Key Stage 1

Children will develop thier awareness of the past and learn skills such as; ordering events by time, knowing the difference between past and present and using a range of sources, including stories, to find out about the past.  Children will learn about the similarities and differences between life in different periods and will begin to know where people and events fit into a wider chronological framework.

We build upon the child's history of themselves and that of their family, enabling the children to talk about significant events from their own past.

Key Stage 2

Learning moves on to develop and deepen the children's understanding of British, local and world historical events and the changes that have occured as a result.  Children will learn how to effectively use timelines to order key events in an historical period of time and to be able to make connections and comparisons between features of past societies and periods of time.

At all times during the learning of history, children will be taught how to investigate a wide variety of sources of evidence to back up their knowledge of historical events or periods of time.

By the end of their time at Sudbourne, each child will have been taught a wide range of key skills in History to enable them to investigate and respond to historical questions using relevant, organised and thoughtful information.
