The Role of Our Governing Board

The schools of Clapham Manor and Sudbourne Federation share one, unified governing board, which consists of 13 members.

Governors work in partnership with the executive headteacher, heads of school and other school staff to promote high standards of educational achievement and to drive the strategic direction of the school.

The governing board has a strong focus on three core strategic functions:

• Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
• Holding the school leadership team to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, including through the performance management of staff
• Overseeing the financial management of the school and making sure its money is well spent

The Structure of Our Governing Board

Governing boards are made up of key stakeholders. Our governing board consists of:

•  1x Headteacher (executive headteacher, ex-officio by virtue of post)
•  2x parent governors (one from each school, elected by parents/carers)
•  1x Local authority governor (appointed by the local authority)
•  1x Staff governor (elected by school staff across the two schools)
•  8x Co-opted governors (appointed by the governing body)

Being a governor enables individuals from the LA, school staff, community and parent body to play an important role in shaping the future of the school. 

The Meetings/Committees of Our Governing Board

The full governing board meets at least once each half-term throughout the academic year. The governing board also holds two additional scheduled meetings every year; a business meeting at the start of the academic year and a strategy day in the last half-term of the year.

The full board has delegated oversight of the financial management of the schools to a Resources Committee which meets 3 times a year. The Resources Committee consists of 5 members.
